The Remington family has been in the cattle business for nearly 50 years.  The operation has evolved over the years and currently consists of two ranches.  One is located in the Milk River ridge area in southern Alberta, situated in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains with grasslands that make for magnificent cattle country.  The second is located in the Diefenbaker Lake area of southern Saskatchewan, where rolling hills and productive grain lands lay.

We produce all of our silage, hay and grain to keep our herd fed and the operation in order.  We are 100% committed to raising high quality seed stock and commercial cattle.  We run 900 purebred Angus cows, a small herd of Red Angus cows, and 300 red and black Simmental cows.  We select an elite group of cows to produce red and black SimAngus cows and bulls, a cross we’ve trademarked as “Yieldmaster”.  In addition, we run 1200 head of commercial Angus cows which are bred to Remington bulls, providing us with the opportunity to prove our home-grown genetics.

Visitors are always welcome to stop by, meet the staff and tour our operation.

Show & Sale Results:
We host two annual sales.  Our first sale takes place on the third Tuesday of December, which is our select female sale – Cream of the Crop Production Sale.  This sale will include a select group of Angus, Simmental and Yieldmaster cows, bred heifers, and heifer calves as well as a set of elite herd bull prospects.  Our second sale is held on the first Tuesday of March and will be a Bull Sale focusing more on the commercial industry.  This sale will highlight a group of May-June born bulls that will be 22 months of age.  Also selling will be a set of yearling bulls born January-February from our Angus, Simmental and Yieldmaster programs.  In addition, we will offer about 500 head of Remington bred commercial red and black heifers for sale at the Fort Macleod Livestock Auction in Fort Macleod, AB and the Highwood Livestock Auction in High River, AB.  Please contact us for more information about our sale offerings.

Breeding Program:
Our bulls are raised with the commercial man in mind.  May-June born bulls and fall born bulls are calved on grass, making calving ease a huge part of our program.  We have selected bulls that will deliver calving ease combined with many other desirable traits such as structure, growth and longevity.  Our sale bulls also have performance, ultrasound and GeneSTAR data.

We are excited about a program we started about five years ago – our Straight Canadian Angus program.  We started by selecting some of the best Straight Canadian genetics we could find, some of which aren’t available anywhere else.  We have selected some elite pedigrees in the Straight Canadian cows we’ve added to our donor program and combined these with great old genetics to produce some outstanding progeny.  We have make some great strides in our bull pen during the last two years with the first crop of Remington Spartan 93R calves being well accepted.  Some of our older herd bulls like Angus Acres Tom Boy, Ronan Tex 56A and PAK 17P have daughters in production now.  The highlight of 2009 was the arrival of the first Old Post calves.  His sons and daughters will make history in the years to come.  With the combination of our new herd bulls and older herd sires, our Straight Canadian program is looking very promising.

We have developed a strong red and black Simmental program.  We were fortunate to acquire an outstanding red Simmental bull to lead our line up, the great Red Label herd sire.  His females are exceptional and the cowboys love his sons.  Red Label has been the top selling red Simmental bull at Genex; this outstanding sire has dominated in the US and Canada, as well as many other countries worldwide.  We consider this widespread acceptance a true compliment to Red Label’s legacy.  The Simmental cattle complement the Angus program and crossbreed successfully to create our Yieldmasters.

Our commercial herd has been the back bone of RLC from the beginning.  We have assembled heifer calves from our commercial bull buyers for the past five years.  In doing that, we have make our commercial herd stronger, and our commercial bred heifers sell second to none.
