Breeding Program:

Everything we have as a family has been accomplished through ownership of Angus cattle. Angus have been continuously bred and produced by our family since 1948.

Whether we are talking about the commercial herd or the registered herd, our cow herd is first and foremost reproductively sound. Reproduction and maternal traits are stressed, but with today's beef industry, we do not ignore growth and carcass characteristics.

It isn't unusual for a cattle ranch to have horses around, we just have a few more than normal. In the early 1990's we made the switch to Paint horses - a stallion plus his broodmare band. We now also run a AQHA buckskin stallion on our Paint stallion's daughters.

The REGISTERED BLACK ANGUS COW HERD was established by Don's parents in the sixties and has long been associated with quality breeding stock.

<> - The Delorme family has spent over 4 decades of combining a hands-on approach, as well as resourcing EPD, ROP, and carcass evaluation data when selecting our service sires for A.I. or natural cover.
<> - These sires are mated (for a Jan/Feb calving) to foundation females which are daughters and granddaughters of the industries most elite bloodlines.

We select a few of our own South Shadow registered bulls every year to be " ranch tested " in our commercial herd, so that the commercial herd services are a proving ground for the registered herd and vice versa.

The COMMERCIAL BLACK ANGUS COW HERD has been the mainstay of the operation since the late 1940's. The commercial operation runs 400 head of black cows. Included in the ranch holdings are cattle from of Alfred and Jo Wardberg, Connie's parents, Darby and Sarah's as well as Kalee and Benny's. Steers and replacement heifers annually offered.

The color in our program comes in the form of Paint foals every spring. The horses used and bred here are not just average ranch horses. These horses have strong, sturdy, well-balanced bodies, and intelligent, trainable minds. Producing horses of this quality isn't easy, and it can't be done through good bloodlines alone. Our horses are raised out in the open, where their bodies and minds are challenged, (and they learn what a barb-wire fence is). A good mind and gentle disposition are essential if a horse is going to be versatile.
